RESIDENCE PERMIT

Foreign nationals that come to Turkey with visa or a visa exemption are allowed to stay maximum for 30, 60 or 90 days of time in one entrance. If you wish to stay longer than given time are obliged to get a residence permit. According to the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458, a residence permit document shall stand for the permit issued for the purpose of staying in Turkey. Residence permit types in Turkey are divided into 6 main categories, depending on the purpose of the stay.

1. Short-Term Residence Permit

Short term residence permits shall be issued with maximum 2 year duration at a time. There are different types of short term residence permit in Turkey;

  • Touristic residence permit
  • Business residence permit
  • Residence permit by buying a property

The different categories might have different application procedures and might have different required documents.

General requirements:

  • Applicant should submit supportive documents relevant with the purpose to stay in Turkey.
  • Applicant should have harboring conditions be in accordance with the general health and security standards.
  • If wanted, applicant should submit the criminal record regulated by the competent authorities which his/her country of nationality or country of residence.
  • Applicant should give the address information in Turkey which he/she will stay.

2. Long-Term Residence Permit

Long term residence permit drafts as indefinitely.

Requirements:

  • To reside in Turkey for minimum 8 years by residence permit without any interruption.
  • Applicant should not take any social help in last 3 years.
  • Applicant should have enough and regular income for himself/herself and his/her family.
  • Applicant should have valid health insurance.

Applicant should not be a threat for public order and public security.

3. Accompany Family Residence Permit

Accompany family residence permit can be regulate not exceeding 3 years for every time. Family members of the applicant may submit separate application or they may apply for family residence permit. Requirements;

  • Evidence of Turkish private health insurance
  • Property ownership documents or rental contract
  • Local Turkish bank statement evidencing financial independence and ability to support dependent

4. Student Residence Permit

Residence permit granted for tertiary studies for the duration of the course taught at an approved Turkish educational institute. Requirements;

  • Letter of acceptance from Turkish educational institute mentioning type of course, duration of course, starting and finishing date of course, location of the course, name of educational institute offering course, and capacity studying at course: post-graduate studies, research, internship, etc.
  • If applicant is under 18 years of age, letter of consent from parents to attend course in Turkey.
  • Passport copy notarized by the Turkish Noter. (Passport will need to be translated by a sworn translator at the Turkish Notary office.)
  • Four biometric photos (not older than 6 months) on your computer to upload during your online application.
  • Evidence of Turkish private health insurance for applicants between the age of 18 and 65.
  • A financial self-sufficiency declaration (that you declare in the application form).

5. Humanitarian Residence Permit

Residence permit offered for one year to those suffering from displacement from civil war, violation of human rights, refugees, and a wide variety of individual humanitarian situations that are approved on a case-by-case basis. Signed and completed application form submitted to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management is needed

6. Residence Permit for Victims of Human Trafficking

This residence permit is issued for thirty days by governorates to foreigners who are victims of human trafficking or where there is strong circumstantial evidence that they might be victims,
Residence permits for the Victims of Human Trafficking might be extended at most 6 months.
